Meet the first woman to pitch in pro baseball

May 10, 2022 | 4:10pm

How to break the glass ceiling? With a baseball bat. Staten Island FerryHawks pitcher and outfielder Kelsie Whitemore is the first woman to start in a pro ball league. “First person I called when they wanted to sign me was my dad,” she told The Post. “I said, ‘Guess what, Dad, I’ll be in New York for the summer.’”

Whitemore’s ultimate goal is to play in the majors. Fortunately for her, the independent Atlantic League has seen more than 950 players sign with the big leagues. “She blends right in with everything,” fellow FerryHawks pitcher Matt Solter said. “She comes out, works hard and does everything she needs to do to get ready for the game.”
