FILM TOUR CELEBRATES WOMEN IN BASEBALL DURING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
California filmmaker to tour the state screening new documentary on gender discrimination in baseball.
Award-winning filmmaker and baseball documentarian Jon Leonoudakis is taking his latest show on the road. “Shutout! The Battle American Women Wage to Play Baseball” chronicles over a century of gender discrimination infecting the national pastime, those who’ve succeeded in spite of it, and considers the path forward.
Leonoudakis …is the producer/director of the baseball documentary series, “The Sweet Spot: A Treasury of Baseball Stories,” airing on Amazon, ROKU, and Vimeo on Demand. “Shutout!” comprises the entire third season of the series.
“March is Women’s History Month, and this project is a good fit to celebrate women in our national pastime while laying the issue of gender discrimination on the table to create a national dialogue and bring change to baseball to make it more welcoming and accessible to girls and women to play, coach, and umpire at any level,” said Leonoudakis.
Eight special screenings from San Francisco to San Diego, free and open to the public, will feature Q&A sessions with the filmmaker, as well as a few with some of the girls and women featured in the film. The program wraps up with a book signing with some of the women featured in the film (varies at locations) and Leonoudakis, who will be signing the first volume from “The Sweet Spot” book series, “Baseball Pioneers.”
